High School Observation Hours

High School Observation Hours: Today I am at Seminole High School and I am observing 3 high school level English classes. I was very excited but a bit intimidated to be back in a high school classroom. Everyone was super nice and I am so glad that I got a chance to sit in with these two teachers because I really loved high school way more than I thought I would like it. My first class was spent on Ms.Padilla. Now the most surprising thing that I saw was that even 10th graders like being read to! Ms. Padilla was reading “Things Fall Apart” and all the kids in the class were really enjoying it. Mrs. Padilla has a way of reading that has everyone hanging on the edge of their seat.  They had a very good dialogue going on because of the higher order questions that the teacher asked. The students were able to really analyze what the book was saying and read between the lines. In fact, the students were so into the book when the bell rang it was like a spell was broken....

Middle School Observation

Middle School Observations: My middle school observation was at Millennium Middle school which is a title 1 school in a brand new building that just opened this school year. Millenium is a Performing Arts and Pre-IB magnet program in Sanford. I would spend today in Ms. Gray’s eighth-grade science lab. Today was actually Ms. Gray’s birthday! She has been teaching for 3 years. Throughout the day she has one standard class, some advanced and 4 Pre-IB classes. Her classroom is set up in groups and the students can choose where they want to sit as long as the groups are pretty even. Today would be interesting because we would be dissecting frogs in every period! This was so cool to be a part of this because I am convinced that I saw teaching magic to happen! To prepare for this in the weeks leading up they had learned about the anatomy of humans and frogs, they had watched videos and labeled the parts of a frog. Today all that knowledge would come together as th...

Elementary Observation Hours

My first day of observations was scheduled at Lake Mary Elementary school. I was very excited because when I become a teacher I hope to teach in 5th grade. Lake Mary Elementary school is departmentalized, meaning after 3rd grade the teachers are responsible for half of the core classes split Language Arts/ History and Math/ Science. I spent my day in a fifth grade LA/History Class, then went to third grade Math and Science, and finished in 4th grade math and science. When I walked into Ms. Valone’s room I immediately felt comfortable. The classroom is very open and bright. There are little hints of Harry Potter in the room. One of the coolest things I noticed was the flexible seating. The desks are bunched in groups of 5 and each group has a different kind of seating. One group has traditional chairs, some had exercise balls, one had stools and one group sat on pillows. Each group has a supply caddy in the middle where there are glue sticks, scissors, pencils, rulers, markers and...
